Abstract

The mortality cause of mothers and infants is closely related to the conditions of socioeconomics, politics, and their culture. At this time, Indonesia has not achieved its 2015 Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) that reduces the mortality of mothers up to 120 out of 100,000 births. This research is aimed at identifying the characteristic relations with the nutritious status of mothers with anemia. This is quantitative research using the explorative descriptive approach conducted in the foster areas of Puskesmas in Jatinangor and Babakan Sari of Bandung City with the respondents of 36 pregnant mothers with anemia. Data is obtained through questionnaires and analyzed by using the frequency distribution. The research results show that pregnant mothers with anemia is dominated in Trimester III reaching 18 people (50%), ages between 20-29 years old reaching 23 people (64%), having primary education levels reaching 20 people (56%), having monthly income less than IDR 2,000,000 reaching 27 people (75%), receiving Ferrum tablets reaching 34 people (94%), consuming ferrum tablets reaching 22 people (61%), having no disease history before pregnancy reaching 27 people (75%), and having no smoking habit reaching 35 people (97%). Monitoring on the health quality of pregnant mothers as well as their fetus is necessary to prevent pregnancy complexity or childbirth through the assessment of nutrient status. Many ways can be used to know the nutrient intakes and status of pregnant mothers through a 24-hour recall, several anthropometry measurements by monitoring the weights of pregnant mothers using Body Mass Index (BMI), measuring the circle of top arm or lingkar lengan atas (LILA), and examining the Hb contents. In addition, monitoring the nutrient intake is conducted through a 24-hour food recall.
