MENSTRUAL HYGIENE BEHAVIOR AMONG STUDENTS IN UMMUL MUKMININ ELEMENTARY SCHOOL, BANDUNG DISTRICT

Abstract


Bad menstrual hygiene practices become one of the factors of health problems of the female reproductive organs. Based on some research, there are young women who behave badly when come to menstrual hygiene. This study aims to study about the behavior of students in their primary menstrual hygiene at Ummul Mukminin Islamic Elementary School. This study using descriptive quantitative research, it was conducted 32 students who have been menstruation as respondents with total sampling technique. The data collection taken using a questionnaire with 24 questions, the questions related to the menstrual hygiene behavior theory, with validity values > 0,3 using a > r and realibility values 0,8 using cronbach’s alpha. The results of the study presented in the form of frequency distribution and percentage. The results shows 53.1% has good menstrual hygiene behavior, and 46.9% has bad menstrual hygiene behavior. The majority of respondents washes used sanitary napkin (78.1%), use cotton underwear to absorb sweat (78.1%), replace underpant if affected by menstrual blood (93.8%), did not change sanitary napkin every  3-4 hours (78.1%) and did not replaces the sanitary napkin at school (62.5%). Based on these results, health education especially about menstrual hygiene needs to be done to give appropriate information about menstrual hygiene on students. School facilities also need to maintain regularly in order to continue supporting the implementation of menstrual hygiene.
